In the early days of industrialisation, "space" for working and living had to be created as quickly and cheaply as possible. In this context, buildings made of wood again played an important role. Already more than 100 years ago such buildings were designed in modular series.
The purpose of use ranges from construction offices and residential accommodation to workshops. Even today, some rare examples can be found on industrial sites such as power stations or chemical plants. There they will soon be replaced by modern container systems.
In the early epochs such barracks were also the mobile accommodations in the construction of many railway lines.
Our model is based on a specimen in Plettenberg: "Barracks at the Ohler Ironworks".
In the post-war period it was necessary to create living space for many hundreds of people as quickly as possible. This could be done relatively quickly with barracks. For this purpose many barracks were partly reactivated from the 20's/30's or newly built on the basis of the existing type plans.
So it is hardly surprising that even after 10 years more than 800 people - that is until the middle of the 50s - still lived in barracks, despite the economic miracle ... A multitude could be demolished after their inhabitants had solid living space. Individual specimens have survived to the present millennium, be it only as storage sheds or shelters on some company premises. (at present we cannot show you the original picture for legal reasons - release is still pending)
Similar barracks can be found all over Germany and everywhere in Europe, some postcards show some examples

Hint:
When assembling the cardboard kit, please use only white glue which does not contain any admixtures such as quartz sand. These automatically lead to unwanted gaps ! For this reason we recommend "Bindan RS". (with which we have gathered the best experience), which you can also order from us.
With the kits you only need very (!) little glue, because we connect flat parts with each other. A light wetting is enough.
Window glass is glued with commercially available all-purpose adhesive.
